Elizabeth Janet Lux

Elizabeth Janet Lux, 78, of Janesville died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at her home. She was born September 13, 1938 in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War. Her parents were Stewart and Kathleen (Roberts) Laidlaw Her early years were, therefore, subjected to the constraints of shortages and rationing with none of the treats and luxuries that today’s children enjoy. However it was a happy childhood, growing up with her siblings in the Oxfordshire mill town that Chipping Norton then was. Janet’s education started at the local schools in the town and when she was 12, she attended an independent school, The Hall in Somerset. In 1953 the family moved to Scotland and Janet completed her schooling at Langholm Academy in Dumfriesshire. From an early age, she loved animals, especially dogs. She also loved babies and trained as a nursery nurse at the Gdonburg School of Mothercraft, which was also a home for babies waiting for adoption or in care. After completing her training, Janet found work with families as a nanny. It was one of these families that she had met at a local church when she moved to Cambridge, WI. On Labor Day weekend that family took her to the Rock River Thresheree where she ended up meeting the love of her life, Donald Lux. They married on October 6, 1962. Janet was a 4-H leader for 51 years and was a member of the Wisconsin IH Club and the Rock River Thresheree Association. She was also very active in the First Presbyterian Church.
Janet is survived by her ten children: Cindy (Randy) Gerstner of Watertown, Bruce Lux of Janesville, Jeni (Joe) McNally of Janesville, Lona (Matt) Graves of Albany, Brian (Leona) Lux of Janesville, Katrina (David) Kummer of Argyle, Bridjet (Mike) Kobelt of Janesville, Lily (Avery) Schiefelbein of Janesville, Doni (Mandy) Lux of Janesville, Brad Lux of Janesville. She has 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as two sisters, Pauline (Michael) Barton of England, Margaret (Charles) Wilkes of England and a brother, Hugh (Pat) Laidlaw of Scotland. She was preceded in death by her husband, on April 10, 2008. Her parents also preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Janesville with Rev. Lee Meissner officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville and at the church on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
